Marktplein - Liberated twice
Just before the liberation, civil servant F. Vogels was picked up by the Germans at home and deported to Eindhoven. The Germans suspected him of hostile activities against them. He was indeed involved in the resistance in Leende. He stayed at the police station in Eindhoven and on 18 September 1944 he was released when Eindhoven was liberated. A day later he went back to Leende. Upon his arrival there, people were shocked when the car with tricolour stopped in front of the door. Leende had not yet been liberated at that time. When the Allied army finally reached Leende too, he could indeed say that he was privileged to have been liberated twice.
