Art lecture by Ingrid Gaasterland: Christmas in art

After the great success of the Advent lecture in previous years, Ingrid Gaasterland has once again delved into the theme: Christmas in art. You are welcome to attend on Thursday 12 December in Dorpshuis ‘t Perron in Heeze. The lecture ‘Christmas in art’ is offered by Friends of the Heeze-Leende Library.

Naturally, we will look at Mary and Joseph and the many different depictions of the birth story. Was Jesus born in a stable, or in a cave after all? In iconography, that depends on the tradition in which the artist stands. Mary is almost always central; Joseph's role has long been underexposed. Yet in art depictions, Joseph plays a role all his own. And quite an emancipated role too; he cooks a porridge, stokes the fire and participates in caring. And then we go to Cologne, where the reliquary of the Three Kings is located. Who exactly were these three magi, and how did they end up in Cologne?

Interesting art images, interspersed with atmospheric Christmas music and, of course, all the fascinating background information will guarantee a few nice hours in Christmas atmosphere.

Friends of the Library cordially invite you on Thursday evening 12 December at Heeze Library (in Village Hall ‘t Perron).
