Under this motto, we will hold our traditional mushroom walk on Sunday, October 20. Once again, we will explore the Herbertus Forests, known for their rich diversity of mushrooms. The walk is organized by the IVN departments of Heeze-Leende and Asten-Someren. Departure from the parking lot at Crematorium Heeze is at 1:30 PM for children and 2:00 PM for adults. Participation in the walk is free, and it will last about two hours.
Autumn is the perfect season for mushrooms, and there's no better place to observe them than in the Herbertus Forests near Kapellerput in Heeze. Mushrooms always draw attention; they almost always catch the eye of hikers when they reappear in the forest, typically in autumn. Nature photographers love capturing them, not only because they stand perfectly still but also because they are so beautiful and mysterious.
But what do we actually know about mushrooms? What is their role in nature? Are they just pretty, or do they have another side? You'll learn the answers to these questions and more when you join the IVN nature guides on October 20.
A tip for the kids: bring a small mirror with you so you can look at the underside of the mushrooms without picking them. For more information, visit the websites of IVN Heeze-Leende and Asten-Someren.
