Bij de St. Janskapel aan de Kapelstraat Leenderstrijp |
|
The St. John's Celebration is organized every year on June 24 by the Guild of St. John Baptista of Leenderstrijp in consultation with the parish. Since 1962 a festive open-air Eucharist is held at the foot of the chapel hill at 7:30 p.m., during which the guild brothers and sisters celebrate their patron saint's feast together with the many people present: St. John the Baptist. Indeed, the Church celebrates the birth feast of this great prophet, the forerunner of Jesus Christ, on June 24. His death anniversary is celebrated on Aug. 29: Decapitation of St. John the Baptist.
Once again this year, the St. John's Celebration will take place on June 24 at 7:30 p.m. at St. John's Chapel on Kapelstraat in Leenderstrijp. The Holy Mass will be graced by both parochial choirs.
The organization is in the hands of the Guild St. Jan Baptista Leenderstrijp that will march from guild house "De Hospes" at 7:15 p.m. with flying banner and beating drum to the St. Janskapel.
Saint John's Truss
During this Holy Mass, Saint John's clusters are dedicated. These clusters are brought by the pilgrims themselves and consist mostly of field flowers. The consecrated cluster is hung on a doorpost outside at home to beg protection from severe weather and evil spirits and to bring good luck and health to those who seek salvation behind the cluster. Such a St. John's truss consists of St. John's wort, note leaf, king's fern, yellow lis, cornflower, daisy, red and white cuckoo flower, forget-me-not, wild pansy, Spanish grass, spike grass and linden leaf. From the garden, a white and red rose and a carnation (snuffle) are added.
