The Trappist monastery De Achelse Kluis is definitely worth a visit during a hiking or biking trip. Located on the border of the Netherlands and Belgium, it is a popular place to take a break and enjoy a home-brewed beer in the cozy restaurant or on the terrace.
The Achelse Kluis is located on the border between the Belgian town of Hamont-Achel and the Dutch town of Leende in a spacious nature reserve of fields, woods and heathland. The area is bisected by the Warmbeek, as they say in Belgium or the Tongelreep, which is the Dutch name for this river.
Feasting and silence
In the abbey, even today, there is still room for rest and contemplation. But you can also enjoy a home-brewed Trappist beer on the terrace or a tasty regional dish in the restaurant. And no matter which way you walk or cycle afterwards, you can always enjoy beautiful views, the varied landscape and silence.
