An ‘End-of-year Plant Hunt’ will take place in our municipality on Sunday 29 December. Following similar national activities, IVN Heeze-Leende is organising a walk of about 1 hour during which all plants found will be mapped. The walk starts at 13:30 from the IVN building, Strabrecht 14 in Heeze. Especially if you don't know much about plants yet, this is a fun introduction to ‘pavement plants’ close to home. Afterwards there will be chocolate milk and cake. The walk may be a stepping stone to the ‘Wild Plants’ course to be held from late April to mid-June next year. From year to year, Floron keeps track of how many flowering wild plants occur in the Netherlands between 26 December and 3 January. Few different plants bloom in the middle of winter, but they are often very common. You find them, for instance, in the municipal parks, under the hedge or between the paving stones. If the weather has been mild, you will find flowering dandelions, for example, but if it has been freezing, it is a sport to still find a flowering plant among the snow that has just melted away. And don't forget the trees, such as the hazel that sometimes blooms as early as the beginning of December. The IVN Heeze-Leende course team will be happy to take you on a walk through Heeze and take stock of which plants we encounter. We do this using a search card with which most flowering plants can be identified. And who knows, we might also see some nice non-flowering plants! If you are interested, please register at cursusteam@ivnheezeleende.nl. Participation is free of charge. In case of bad weather, the activity will not take place. You will be notified in the morning.
