Endless horseback riding through nature
In Heeze-Leende, since July 2019, you can enjoy 86 kilometers of equestrian and riding routes based on the nodes. You can ride endlessly through nature from Heeze-Leende, because the new junction network connects to routes through Valkenswaard, Someren and Cranendonck. With pleasure, VisitBrabant took care of the construction and they also take care of the maintenance.
In their equestrian route planner, you can view all the Brabant junction routes for horseback riding and driving. Simply map out your own route via the junctions and set off on a nice ride.
The route takes you through the different landscapes of Heeze: the moors, the woods around Heeze Castle, a stream valley and the countryside. A good stopping place for these routes is the Heidecafé de Strabrechtse Heide.
Castle Heeze is one of the most important national monuments in the Netherlands. Partly because of the unique location of the completely enclosed castle, amidst a beautiful natural landscape in the vicinity of the Strabrechtse Heide and the mostly 18th century interior of the Castle, which has remained intact throughout the centuries.
The Strabrechtse Heide is a vast moorland landscape with beautiful views. The Strabrechtse Heide is approximately 1500 ha large and is located in the municipalities of Heeze-Leende , Someren and Geldrop-Mierlo. During your visit you may encounter the shepherd with his flocks.
Located on the Belgian border, near the abbey De Achelse Kluis is the starting point for a beautiful walking or cycling tour through the Leenderbos or the Groote Heide. Here you can enjoy views and silence. The variation in this small-scale landscape contributes to a sense of freedom. You can smell the many different coniferous trees and observe special animal species such as the nightjar, moor frog, viviparous lizard, woodcock, tawny owl and black woodpecker.
Start at the Achelse Kluis and follow the signposted junctions. Below you will find more about the special attractions you encounter along the way.

In winter you look out on the frozen fens, in spring everything comes alive and you hear the birds singing. What remains every season are the vistas and endless silence. Hike across the Groote Heide and through the Leenderbos in North Brabant and discover the vast views.
Forester Erik Schram: "During this walk you will find yourself far from civilization and in the middle of an area full of panoramic views and infinite silence. Climb the watchtower and enjoy the wide view of the flowing waters of the Tongelreep, the fens in the heath and the cattle in the grazing area.
Walking through the forest you can smell the conifers and discover the character of the Leenderbos. You won't find a single straight stretch here and meander through the area. During the walk you walk along the crane ponds on the Groote Heide. There you have the chance to spot water birds.
With enough freezing temperatures, you can enjoy the beautiful frozen fens during the winter months. Still, I prefer hiking in the spring. Everything grows and blooms and comes back to life. Around you, you can hear the birds singing."
A new walking route has been added. Starting and ending point of the walk is the terrace of "The Brothers". Because it is a "detour," the walk can be started at any time.
A walking/biking tour of the outlying area of the municipality was taken because of IVN's 40th anniversary.
